Kenya & Tanzania Base Itineraries

As Confucius said (or, at least, somebody very wise), you’ve got to start somewhere – and when you’re creating your East Africa holiday with Meraki Travel, you start with a base itinerary.

This base is where you get down to business. It includes the ‘You’d be mad to miss’ destinations in each region – you know, those places you simply must visit otherwise you’ll be kicking yourself once you get back.

When you’ve settled on your base Tanzania or Kenya itinerary, you can then tailor it to your exact requirements. Fancy adding new locations to your trip? Choose Zanzibar for some beach chilling time, or Amboseli to see Africa’s highest peak. And if you change your mind – no worries. Just click to remove them from your East Africa travel itinerary until you’ve got it right.

If things are happening too fast, don’t worry - you can slow it down by changing the pace of your trip. If six days isn’t enough, why not add more nights in the places that grab you most and extend your itinerary? You can also opt for a joint Kenya and Tanzania itinerary to see the best of both countries in one trip. Accommodation options can also be tailored to suit your personal style (such as something with a bit more character) or your budget (go luxury for that blowout). Plus, you can add experiences to your whole trip based on your interests. Whether you can’t sit still, you want to spend a bit more time learning the local ways or you’re looking for a unique, one-off experience, we’ve got it covered. Just choose the Active pack, Authentic pack or Once in a Lifetime pack when you’re planning your holiday.

Once you’re happy with your trip, all you need to do is enter your dates, select your flights and then you can book up the whole thing – remember to book that annual leave!

If all that sounds like too many decisions in one session – choices, choices! – then just save your trip at any point and come back to it later. You can even create multiple trips to share with your significant other, so you can agree on the one that works for both of you. Simple really. And a lot of fun.

Maybe our Kenya Classic itinerary looks like the route for you, but perhaps you were hoping for a little more pizazz? Well, that’s where the ‘flying safari’ aspect swoops in to make all the difference. Now this is a Classic itinerary with a difference. You’ll still make the same stops – think lively Nairobi, beautiful Lake Naivasha and the iconic Maasai Mara – except on this itinerary, forget rumbling over the roads in long car journeys because you’ll be hopping on a small plane to get you from A to B.

Ok, so you'll be driven from Nairobi to Lake Naivasha, but after than it’s light aircraft all the way. Now really, does it get any better than swooping over big game peppered plains on an intimate ‘flying safari’? We don’t think so.

This base itinerary gives you six nights to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of East Africa, but can be extended to seven nights if you go for the ‘relaxed’ pace option (an extra night in Maasai Mara is definitely tempting). And we know that you’ve opted for this itinerary because you like your comfort, so don’t – all the hotels are either premium or luxury in this special package.

And, as if that wasn’t enough, you’ll even get all the must-do experiences thrown in too, such as a city tour in Nairobi, a boat ride and game drive in Lake Naivasha and multiple game drives in Maasai Mara National Park.To really make the trip your own why not add on some tailored extras? There’s no better way to get to grips with Kenya’s myriad cultures than hitting the ‘community’ button, it’ll see you taking in the Bomas of Kenya as well as being welcomed into a traditional Maasai Tribe village. Or, if the flights of your base package aren’t quite ‘once in a lifetime’ enough for you then a hot air balloon ride over the Maasai Mara definitely will be.

Obviously all transport is covered; you’ll be flying to most of these locations as well as having a private car to chauffeur you to any destinations that lack aircraft access. But if you want to take your adventure that little bit further – and why wouldn’t you? – you can add Samburu, Amboseli, Mombasa and Zanzibar to your list. What’s not to love?

Sound like something you’d be into?  Start designing your holiday now using the Kenya Classic Flying Safari as your base itinerary.
