Introducing the Meraki Travel Base Itinerary
What is a Base Itinerary?
1 June 2019 by Matt Hodgson
Base means bottom or boring - right? Not in the case of Meraki Travel base itineraries. We spent a lot (and I mean a lot) of time trying to come up with a better name than “base”, so after reading this article feel free to email us if you have a better name.
Here is what base means to us
Our base itineraries have been carefully designed with 3 major factors in mind:
1. All the must see sights and must do activities. We’ve started with the bits you’d be mad to miss.
2. Base includes a lot. This is not bare minimum travel. Our base itineraries all include:
✓ International flights from the UK (these can be removed at booking if you want to source your own)
✓ All in-destination travel - think trains, private car and driver, light aircrafts, float planes, self-drive… we've put the arrangements in place to get you around in the best way possible.
✓ Private vehicles and guide
✓ All accommodation
✓ The must see Experiences in any one stop
✓ All breakfasts and some other meals
3. All base itineraries have been designed to allow YOU to build on them adding new stops to make your holiday perfect to you.
So if they include so much why did you call them base? Well that’s because they are the building blocks – think foundations – of your holiday.
A good base is all you need...
You can book the base itinerary, not add anything, and you will have a fabulous holiday – but you would be missing the chance to personalise and make your holiday truly exceptional. Each base has up to 6 extra optional added routes. Add one, add two or add all six and your private transport will be automatically adjusted to get you around with the minimum of fuss.
Our base itineraries included standard hotels, these are our favourite hand-picked 3 and 4 star properties. But we know not everyone wants a standard hotel. That’s why we give you at least two upgrade options in every location. Perhaps you prefer small boutique hotels? Or want to splash out on real luxury? (Click here to read about what makes a Meraki Travel hotel special)
The personalisation doesn’t stop there.
Our base itineraries include the must do experiences in each destination but we know you may want more than just the highlights reel – so we have scoured each destination to bring you the Experience Packs (click here to read our How To Guide explaining all about Experience Packs). These packs follow a theme and allow you to tailor your holiday time around your interests. If you’re a foodie, why not add a cooking class or if you’re active, add a hike. And what’s best is we’ve designed the itineraries to allow you to add as many of these experience packs as you like – so active foodies who loves culture and wildlife will be well catered for.
And if you enjoy free time to explore by yourself, keep your experience packs to a minimum, you’ll find you have plenty of free time in each destination. Or opt for our relaxed pace which adds extra free time in several stops along the way. Prior to departure, we’ll send you some tips on how to fill your free time.
Essentially, base means starting point, all the essentials you need to experience the highlights - think solid and dependable – but also think of what you can build from a good base – the options are almost endless!
