India Base Itineraries

As Confucius said (or, at least, somebody very wise), you’ve got to start somewhere – and when you’re creating your holiday with Meraki Travel, you start with a base itinerary.

This base is where you get down to business. It includes the ‘You’d be mad to miss’ destinations in each region – you know, those places you simply must visit otherwise you’ll be kicking yourself once you get back.

When you’ve settled on your base itinerary, you can then tailor it to your exact requirements. Fancy adding new locations to your trip? Choose Goa for some beach chilling time, or Shimla for some mountain action. And if you change your mind – no worries. Just click to remove them from your itinerary till you’ve got it right.

Things happening too fast? Slow it down by changing the pace of your trip. Add more nights to the places that grab you most, and stay a bit longer to really drink it all in.

You can even choose accommodation options to suit your personal style (such as something with a bit more character) or your budget (go luxury for that blowout). Plus, you can add experiences to your whole trip based on your interests. Whether you’re a foodie, can’t sit still or want to spend a bit more time meeting the locals, we’ve got it covered. Just choose the Foodie Experience pack, Active pack or Authentic pack when you’re planning your holiday.

Once you’re happy with your trip, all you need to do is enter your dates, select your flights, decide if you want to visit somewhere en route (quick shop in Dubai on the way, anyone?) and then you can book up the whole thing.

If all that sounds like too many decisions in one session – choices, choices! – then just save your trip at any point and come back to it later. You can even create multiple trips to share with your significant other, so you can agree on the one that works for both of you. Simple really. And a lot of fun.

You might think Classic means safe. Or boring. But our Classic itinerary is anything but. How else could you make a trip to the capital, Delhi, and drink in the atmosphere of the craziest market you’ll probably ever see at Chandni Chowk; or marvel at the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra, chase (OK, spot) tigers in Ranthambore, and stroll through the pink city of Jaipur, home to the current royal family? You’ll do all this and more with this north India itinerary.

The base package gives you eight nights in India, which can be extended to 11 if you opt for the ‘relaxed’ pace (this adds a few extra nights for you to soak up the atmosphere in Delhi, Jaipur and Ranthambore). If you like your comfort, you're in luck – all the hotels are three or four star, with the option of upgrading in the itinerary builder if you want a bit more luxury.

What’s more, the Classic trip includes all the must-see experiences, such as a day touring New Delhi and Old Delhi, a tiger safari at Ranthambore, and time to watch the sunrise at the Taj Mahal. Plus, to make this truly the trip of a lifetime, you can add on extras, including taking a yoga class opposite the Taj Mahal – yes, pack the Lycra – or, if you love being on two wheels, a cycling tour of Jaipur.

All transport is covered, too; you get a private car and driver to escort you to all these locations. But if you want to take your trip that little bit further – and why wouldn’t you? – you can add Amritsar and Shimla, Jodhpur and Udaipur, Mumba and Goa, and Khajuraho and Bandhavgarh to your list. What’s not to love?

If you love your history, you won't be disappointed with our Heritage itinerary. It gives you all the excitement of the Classic, but adds a liberal dose of culture by topping you up with Udaipur and Jodhpur. You can really fill your boots with this one.

Imagine 13 nights in India, easily extendable to 16 nights if you want to take things slower (if so, just choose the ‘relaxed’ pace, which gives you extra time in Jaipur, Udaipur and Ranthambore). You’ll be chauffeured between destinations in your own private car, while three and four-star accommodation means you’ll be able to relax in comfort. Should you want to make your trip that much more plush, however, you can upgrade your hotels in the itinerary builder.

The Heritage itinerary, gives you access to all the must-see attractions, including: a jaw-dropping tiger safari at Ranthambore – which you’ll never forget; seeing the sunrise over the marble mausoleum that is the Taj Mahal; and a cooling cruise around Lake Pichola in Udaipur. If that’s not enough, you can add more, such as meeting a local artist at their workshop in Udaipur.

To extend your trip even further, you can add Amritsar and Shimla, Mumbai and Goa, and Khajaraho and Bandhavgarh to your holiday. It’s your call.

Looking for a south India itinerary? If relaxed and laid back is your style, then you and Kerala will make the perfect coupling. This is a place where backwaters meet palm trees and rice fields meet coconut groves. Children play on riverbanks and houseboats bob gently in the breeze. Yes, this really is lush.

Choosing the Classic Kerala itinerary gives you time in Cochin, Thekkady, Alleppey and Kumarakom.  You’ll stay for seven nights, unless you want to max out your trip and opt for an additional night in Cochin – choose the ‘relaxed’ pace, if so (yes, your relaxing trip really can get more chilled out).

No need to think about getting to and from your destinations, as a private car and driver are provided. Accommodation is plush four star, but you can upgrade this using the itinerary builder if you fancy something a bit different.

With this Classic Kerala southern India travel itinerary, all the must-see attractions are included, such as an overnight stay on a houseboat in Alleppey, and a half-day tour that takes in the sights of Cochin. If you want more, then add on extra experiences, such as learning how to cook a minceball curry in Cochin, or finding out how to dress like a local in Alleppey. For this trip, optional extras include adding Munnar, Madurai and Kovalam as further destinations, to really make this time your own.

The stillness is deafening. You can hear your heartbeat thumping, your breathing getting shorter. This is Bandhavgarh, India – and you’re about to meet your first tiger.

If you’ve always dreamed of seeing the most majestic of animals, this base itinerary is for you – and you haven’t got a moment to lose. This itinerary has been designed especially for people who want to spot tigers, and you’ve got a pretty good shot at it. During your trip, you’ll visit Delhi, Bandhavgarh, Kanha and Mumbai, spending 8 nights in total. You can extend this India itinerary with lots of options in our itinerary builder or simply do the same journey over 10 days – should you wish – by selecting the ‘relaxed’ pace. Doing this will give you extra nights in Bandhavgarh and Kanha.

Transport is all sorted – you get your own private car and driver – and your accommodation is four star all the way. But if you want to go a bit more upmarket or add character, you can easily upgrade in the itinerary builder to something more your style.

This amazing trip includes all the must-see attractions, such as a tiger safari in Bandhavgarh and a tour of all the best sights in Mumbai. As if that wasn't enough, you can use the Experience Packs to extend the game drives, or add in a backstage glimpse of the world of Bollywood. To stay for longer – and get a real taste of the rest of the country – you can add on Amritsar and Shimla, Jaipur, Agra, Khajaraho, and Goa to your trip of a lifetime. Go on. You know you want to.
